Things to do in Correze

Correze is a paradise for outdoor activities. Take a day off from the saddle and discover more of what this region has to offer…..

Accrobranch (Go Ape)

One of the top things to do in Corrèze is a fun afternoon climbing through the trees on ropes known in France as ‘Accrobranch’. There are several centres which do this activity – Mayadventure in Aubazine one is less than 30 minutes from us. Yu can also do paintball there.

The most expensive tarif for all circuits is 19€ per person, which we are informed by our UK guests is a bargain for up to 3.5 hours of entertainment

Booking is recommended in high season

Walking and Hiking

In addition to walking around the lanes and footpaths around Chateauret there are some lovely walks in the area following valleys with spectacular waterfalls and around picturesque lakes.
We are situated on the ancient route of the Transcorrezian railway, which now has many well planned and marked walks.
At Marc La Tour (15 minutes) there is a 20km walk featuring sculptural installations
A bit further away (1.5 hours) you can spend an amazing day walking around the caldera of Mont Dore, an extinct volcano with breathtaking views of the Puy de Dome region.

Canoe & Kayak

The best kayaking in the area is approximately 30 minutes away at Argentat on the river Dordogne. Here you can go on a canoe or kayak safari traveling 26 kilometres down the Dordogne to the picturesque Beaulieu sur Dordogne.

There are several small rapids on the route and plenty of stopping places with cafes serving drunks and snacks. The trip takes around 5 hours and a return bus trip to Argentat is included in the hire charge of around 13 euros per person. Shorter routes are possible

Kayaking and white water rafting are also available in Tulle (25minutes).

Water Sports

We are 20 minutes from the huge 230 hectare Lac de la Valette at Marcillac la Croisille. There are two beaches with cafes and the Station Cap Sports Nature, which offers various water sports including water skiingsailing, wave boarding, hot seating (pictured) kayaking and windsurfing.

Prices are around 50% of what you would expect to pay in the UK for similar activities
Advance booking is recommended in high season.

Open Water Swimming

In addition to our own swimming pool there are several ‘blue flag’ lakes close by for open water swimming in summer.  Within 10 minutes drive we have the Etang Laborde (unsupervised) perfect for triathlon training.
15 to 20 minutes away is the 230 hectare lake at Marcillac la Croisille with supervised beaches and watersports.  Slightly further afield (35 minutes drive) there is the lovely Lac de Miele which has diving platforms and a 1950’s resort feel.
There is a good open air water park, ‘Centre Aqua Creatif’ with slides and chutes at Argentat (30 minutes drive) which is picturesquely situated on the bank of the Dordogne river.

Aqua Rando

Known as canyoning in the UK, you can now participate in this exciting sport here in Correze.  Between the villages of Bar and Correze (20 minutes), you can climb and swim down the Correze river through a landscape of granite boulders and waterfalls. the aim is not to stay dry!
All equipment and safety clothing is provided. This activity is only available from mid June to the end of August, between 14h & 17h 30 (3.5 hours activity) and the minimum age limit is 12 years. Cost approximately 25 euros per person.

Station Sport Nature also organise white water rafting, acoe kayak, air rafting and many other activities.

Fishing

Our ‘etang’ – small lake – is around 1000 square metres and is well stocked with a range of fish of varying sizes including Tench and Carp (pictured). Surrounded by trees and beautiful countryside it is a quiet and idyllic place to spend a few hours fishing. The Kingfishers and our Jack Russell, Henri, will keep you company.
There are some excellent specialist carp fishing lakes in the area, including at the picturesque Chateau Sédières.  For these lakes you will have to have a French fishing permit and pay the local day rate  but there are monster carp to be caught!
Fly fishing for trout is also very popular in the region with centres on the Dordogne river and it’s tributaries.
You can find more fishing information at the following sites:

Parapente

There are some excellent sites for parapente in the area. Most spectacular location is at the Suc de Mary in the Monedieres mountains, around 45 minutes from here.
You can do a 10-15 minute ‘baptism’ flight with the MMVL school of free flight for 50 euros or a full day course for 100 euros
You can find more information at their site

Be Creative ...

Painting

Artists will be spoilt for choice with the lovely scenery at Chateauret and surrounding countryside.  Local artists offer courses in wool dying, spinning, working with felt, and pottery and there is a visiting British watercolour artist who runs courses three times a year at La Roche Canillac (about 10 minutes by car).
For a small charge we can provide painting materials for watercolour & pastels, should the artistic urge come over you!

Digital Photography

Courses can be arranged for groups of up to 4 persons, or private day tuition.  This must be done at the time of booking as there is a high demand through the year for this service.
