Cycling Kit to Bring with You

  • Helmet – not required by French Law, but don’t recommend you go out without one.
  • Rain proof jacket and warm cycling clothing – conditions can be unpredictable at high altitude and warm clothing is essential at the start and end of the season. Arm and leg warmers are particularly useful.
  • Shoes and also pedals if you rent a bike.
  • Sun cream – high factor sports variety.
  • Forgotten something? Don’t worry we have several good cycling kit suppliers within easy reach (which for us means less than than 30 minutes away). There is a Decathlon Express and Intersport in Tulle, as well as an excellent independent shop ‘Brival‘.

Shipping Your Bike

A good alternative to risking your precious bike to the ‘care’ of the airlines, is to ship your bike. There are now specialist operators who can arrange to collect and deliver your bike, for around the same price that you would pay an airline carrier, but with the benefit that you don’t have to lug a huge bike box around the airport – especially great if you have to transit across Paris. Send Bike offer a courrier service.

Bikes on Planes

Many of our guests choose to bring their own bikes by plane – there’s nothing better than your own wheels!  Carriers charge around £50-£70 each way to transport bikes, which must be packed in a suitable container and there is usually a weight limit of around 30 kilos.  Bike boxes come in all shapes and sizes and are also available for hire.  If we are booked to collected you from the airport there is no need to worry – we will bring our crewbus, which has space for 5 guests and their bike boxes and luggage.

Some guests have had their biked shipped to us which can be significantly cheaper – we are more than happy to take delivery of bikes up to 10 days in advance of your holiday, although you will still have to unpack them when you arrive…

The following article may be of use – although it was published in 2012, so be warned that the pricing may have increased since then – especially for Ryanair…
